Will Now Run on Tubes

I previously blogged about my injury following my 100th kilometer. So as planned, we headed to Ortigas from Manila in order to have my gait analyzed at Second Wind. I didn’t paid enough attention to the map since seeing the Home Depot landmark made me think that that was the MC Home Depot I have previously visited. I am not familiar with Pasig so I didn’t know that there were two Home Depot in the vicinity and that the store was beside Ortigas Home Depot. Well anyway, we found the place.

We walked in the store and told the attendant that I came for a gait analysis. I was instantly disappointed when he informed me that the operator was not in and that they encourage those who wants to take one to call beforehand. We were about to leave the store when Hector, who just got off from a phone call, asked us how he can help. I told him that I would like to buy a running shoe but would want a gait analysis first. He said that if I have my running shoe with me, he’ll be able to help me find the appropriate shoe by analyzing it’s wear and tear. He explained that it is actually more effective to analyze the latter since the former only checks what is happening during the time of the analysis.

He checked the sole of my shoes, made me balance myself on one foot; and concluded that I supinate. He recommended several cushioning shoes that is fit for a beginner’s budget. I picked three brands for testing: New Balance, Mizuno, and K-Swiss. After trying out each pair on the treadmill, I decided to get K-Swiss’ Tubes Run 100A since it was the most comfortable one.

I tried running with it this morning and my right feet, which is the one that often hurts, experienced no pain. The Tubes cushion my feet well upon striking the ground that I had to resist the temptation to bounce. The only down side I noticed is its tendency to slip on wet surface. Other than that, I am very happy with it.

Thanks to Hector Yuzon for being very patient and helpful that afternoon. I am now a fan. Buying a running shoe is not that easy after all.

Second Wind is the first running store in the Philippines for runners, by runners. They currently have two branches; one is at Teacher’s Village in Quezon City (Tel# 799.2089) and the other is at Ortigas in Pasig (Tel# 914.0283). Check out their official website for more info.

I’m glad you have found some comfortable running shoes. I would however, recommend that you still have a gait analysis perhaps with a Podiatrist. Your injury was caused my something that was not quite right and a gait analysis would be able to highlight any biomechanical abnormalities you may have or rule them out.
