34th Milo Marathon – Manila Elims

// July 8th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Running

I’m getting ready, getting ready,
Oh boy what a day it’s gonna be!

The last run I had with my friends was more than two months ago and so I was looking forward running with them on this event. I wasn’t targeting for a PR, I wanted to experience the fun in this run.

Since Milo Marathon is the biggest, longest, and grandest running event in the Philippines; I was expecting a lot from them as far as organization is concerned. Anyway, they have 34 years of experience tucked under their belt. Sadly, I was wrong.

When the gun was shot and the 6AM-runners took off, it is only natural that one starts wishing that slots were made limited. One lane of Roxas Boulevard was not enough to accommodate the reported 20,000 5k participants. However, that might also mean fewer children receiving new shoes. So next time, I’ll happily lower my expectations when it comes to cause-oriented race with unlimited slots.

Neutrogena Run 2010: Chase The Sun

“I like to chase after that elusive lotto luck,
because I want to give all my friends a f…

Thanks to The Bull Runner!

I made it a point to arrive early this time so that I can do my warm-up and stretching. The event noticeably had fewer participants compared with Earth Run. In my opinion, that could be the reason why this run is more organized than the latter. I liked it that way.

Earth Run 2010 race results were supposed to be released yesterday and so I planned to publish this as my Earth Day post. Sadly, results are still not released up to this moment.

After two 3K events, Earth Run 2010 will be my first 5K in an organized race. This explains my excitement despite the inconvenience I experienced during registration.

I prepared my apparels, went to the grocery to buy some race supplies, and slept early to make it to the 5 o’ clock meeting time with friends. We left Manila around 5:15AM and due to a number of delays (gas station queuing, Makati re-routing, traffic at the intersection of St. Luke’s, and full parking), we arrived late. Found our way to the starting line and made a dash for it without warm-ups and stretching. That and the drills I did Saturday morning gave me a very nice foot cramp and hamstring stiffness. I knew early on that I had to say goodbye to my sub-45 target. It was a bad start.. and yes, we learned our lessons.

Anyway, here are my thoughts on my 5K Earth Run 2010 experience:
