Intramuros Forever Ends Today

Intramuros Forever ends today. This is the first photo competition I joined using my DSLR. I rarely join in contests because themes restrict me.

I am a photo hobbyist with no formal training. My composition is always tied up with what I’m feeling and less on technical knowledge. Sad to say, I didn’t quite managed to have a connection with the theme. I had a hard time finding the forever in Intramuros. But it was a good learning experience.

  • I learned that me and Julia, my DSLR, have a lot of catching up to do.
  • I learned that Dodge and Burn are two powerful functions at the hands of a master.
  • I learned that what you see on screen may actually look better on print.
  • I learned that the aspect ratio of the DSLR image does not match to an 8″x10″ photo size.
  • I learned that due to the above, it is better to utilize borders. Do not opt to crop out the excess especially if it is an essential part of your composition (poor judgment on my part…).
  • I learned that it is hard to find a printing center during Sundays.
  • I learned that there are photos better than yours, at least on my level, so do not check out other people’s work when submitting your entry.

I managed to submit three entries. Hopefully, I’ll have a chance to take formal classes with FPPF this year so I’ll be more equipped for next year’s competition.
