Earth Run 2010 race results were supposed to be released yesterday and so I planned to publish this as my Earth Day post. Sadly, results are still not released up to this moment.

After two 3K events, Earth Run 2010 will be my first 5K in an organized race. This explains my excitement despite the inconvenience I experienced during registration.
I prepared my apparels, went to the grocery to buy some race supplies, and slept early to make it to the 5 o’ clock meeting time with friends. We left Manila around 5:15AM and due to a number of delays (gas station queuing, Makati re-routing, traffic at the intersection of St. Luke’s, and full parking), we arrived late. Found our way to the starting line and made a dash for it without warm-ups and stretching. That and the drills I did Saturday morning gave me a very nice foot cramp and hamstring stiffness. I knew early on that I had to say goodbye to my sub-45 target. It was a bad start.. and yes, we learned our lessons.
Anyway, here are my thoughts on my 5K Earth Run 2010 experience:
Good Points
- Installation of directional signs on intersections.
- A good number of traffic and route marshals.
- Sufficient hydration booths.
- Thumbs up for the singlet. I like it very much.
Points for Improvement
- Use of plastic cups at the hydration booth. Since this was a run for the Earth, I expected it to be more Earth-friendly. Paper cups could have been a better alternative.
- No proper disposal for the used plastic cups.
- Though I have not personally experienced this but I heard several participants that had a bad stomach after drinking the energy drink given out during the race.
- I thought there were few portalets considering the number of participants.
- The stage, sponsors booth, and giveaway area were installed altogether in a very little space resulting to a long and non-moving line. By the time my friends reached the area, the only thing they got were a bunch of brochures, certificate of participation, and a disposable face towel.
- Assign a more courteous person to man your registrations. The one in G4 was an &$%!
Earth Run 2010 race results are yet to be released but I managed to self-time my run at 47:59. The traditional post-race breakfast with friends followed immediately at Pancake House. Below are some pictures…
